Random Acts of Kindness

Our counselor sent out the attached link for Random Acts of Kindness for the month of January.  I think it is just wonderful.  Kindness is something that is discussed daily in second grade, it has to be explicitly taught in this stage of a child's development because they are naturally and organically egocentric and thinking of themselves.  Modeling and naming kind behavior is such a wonderful way to teach them to be great people.

Message from our Homeroom Parents

Hey Shogan Families!! This is Amanda and Crystal, two of your homeroom parents.  We have created a CHECKLIST for your convenience. It has a lot of the BiG ticket items that need to be completed… So, let’s start checking those boxes! With all of us working together we can make this year great for our kiddos! Thanks for supporting FCE!

The checklist is also in the Handouts page under Other documents.

And just like that it is September!

 This Week's Focus
A hard copy of this is being sent home with kids.  Please click on the picture to see if you are able to read it without any difficulty with permission settings.  I'd like to go greener and stick to electronic newsletters as long as everyone has access.
As always if you have any questions, comments or concerns just send me an email and I'll get right back to you!  Thank you for sharing your kiddos with me.

Welcome Back!

It is wonderful to have the class full of Salamanders again.  The past week, we have gotten to know each other and are gradually mastering the expectations of the classroom and common areas throughout the school.

If you were able to make it OPEN HOUSE on Wednesday, thank you for your time.  If not, no worries, the link for the powerpoint is click here for presentation.

I am practicing my failure bow ... our class did not get their yellow Thursday Folders out the door today, so they will magically transform into Friday folders.  There are several things that will require parent attention and signatures:
1.  There is a copy of the student handbook.  The signature page should be signed by student and guardian and returned by August 30.  It's worth 5 dojo points!
2.  There is a permission form for the ICAN initiative with UT.  Whether you agree to have your child participate or not, the return of the signature page is worth ... an ICAN PENCIL and more valuable dojo points!
3.  Finally, there is a website privacy policy form and again kids can gain dojo points.

Let's Tie our Shoes!

Parents,
I'm so old there was only one way to tie our shoes... the old circle method.  Now there's criss-cross bunny ears and this way that I've linked below that is supposed to be the "easiest" for kids to learn.

Second graders are becoming self-sufficient in a lot of areas.  Why not help them starting at the bottom up?  I do not have time to practice daily but will be showing some kids this method.
