Dear Parents:
I have had the
opportunity to experience the election through the eyes of a 3rd grader. In class, our discussions have
been about the two party system, the branches of government and
the rights and privileges of citizens. In the students' homework packet
there was an electoral map that they can use to watch a little of the campaign
results for extra credit in social studies.
I realize full results will not be in by bedtime : )
In class, we have read
3rd grade appropriate material about the candidates and I have made a point to
explain that both candidates want
what is best for our great nation, but they have different views about how to
keep it strong. (Notice I used key words from both campaigns there).
We will continue to learn that our government has a system of checks
and balances.
I have repeatedly said that
the winner, whomever that may be ... will be "THE President" and will
deserve our respect and loyalty as the leader of our nation -- even if our
choice didn't win. Please reinforce this
at home.
Talk to your child about
what they “know” about the candidates and what their fears might be. You would be surprised some of the things
kids believe at this stage.
Oh -- and please tell them you aren’t really moving
to Canada!
Email me if you have any
additional concerns.
